Health Benefits of Almonds for Low Carb Dieters
Dr. Robert Atkins, the father of the modern low-carb movement, was a big proponent of eating almonds on a low-carb diet. While he loved macadamia nuts for their extremely high fat content, he loved almonds for their link to heart disease prevention, bone strength, and immune system health. It’s also known that almonds contain large amounts of heart-healthy monounsaturated fat, which can help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels when even a small amount is consumed daily.
It’s possible that chocolate covered almonds may have been around since the mid-1700s starting with recipes for milk chocolate covered almonds. When sugar-free candies and chocolates became popular (especially since the introduction of the low carb diets), we started to see sugar-free milk and dark chocolate covered almonds become more popular than chocolate covered peanuts.
Erythritol Sugar-Free Dark Chocolate Covered Almonds by LC Foods
Even though sugar-free chocolate covered almonds have been around for years I really think you’ll like the erythritol-sweetened dark chocolate almonds from LC Foods (a proud sponsor of CarbSmart).
As we’ve mentioned before, LC Foods makes their sugar-free dark chocolate blend with inulin (chicory root) and erythritol as a combined low-carb sweetener. Yes, erythritol is technically a sugar alcohol but it is a natural low-carb sweetener and usually does not cause stomach distress in most people like maltitol does. LC Foods only uses a small amount of erythritol to mix with the inulin. Their blend of sugar-free chocolate tastes great and doesn’t hurt our stomachs and digestive systems.
LC Foods dark chocolate covered almonds snack packs contain two servings per package. They take big, dry roasted almonds and cover them with their healthy blend of sugar-free dark chocolate. Each ¼ cup serving (½ package) has 4g of net carbs and 22g of fat. These healthy high-fat dark chocolate snacks are rich with flavor and filled with fresh, healthy dry roasted almonds. Even though I love their Erythritol Sugar-Free Dark Chocolate Covered Peanuts Snack Packs, I think I love these more.
November 7 is National Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day (think of bittersweet chocolate and dark chocolate as the same thing) but they’re a great snack anytime of the year.
